Boudicca: Celtic warrior queen
After a succession of Roman Emperors became oppressive toward the Celts of Britain, Nero seized land belonging to Boudicca after the death of her husband, the king of Icene, to pay a loan. However, the Roman emperor took all Boudicca's land and assets, amounting to much more than the amount owed, and Roman soldiers, according to the historian, Tacitus, beat Boudicca and raped her two daughters. That's when Boudicca decided to raise her army and attack Londinium, the largest Roman city in Britain, burning it to the ground in 61 A.D. Some accounts say Boudicca took poison rather than be taken by the Romans. It is not known for certain what happened to her.
After Boudicca's successes, Roman occupation became less oppressive.
